Beloved, I would like to conclude this series of letters, entitled “A God who Cannot Lie,” by quoting directly from the scriptures – “…faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:17). You must understand that every man will be held responsible for that degree of light which he/she has received, because God holds Himself responsible to uphold His own Word. I shared with you earlier that God swore by “two immutable things” – His Name and His Word, that He would uphold His words unto us. Paul declares that in these two things, “…it was impossible for God to lie, [so that] we might have a strong consolation…to lay hold upon the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18). In other words, our God had the wisdom to base His ability to keep His promises upon the integrity of His own character, and not someone else’s, so that we Christians can be comforted in the hope and assurance that His words are true.
Precious Ones, no one knows the depth of our God’s knowledge or the degree of light that He knows! Therefore, if God holds Himself up to a standard unattainable by humans, then we must know that God expects us to show our faith with works by living in the light and knowledge given to us. We know that God is not a liar, so if we say that we live to please Him by faith, then we must show our faith by being honest in all of our affairs in this life.
Chosen Ones, as I conclude, I leave you with this thought – God will never lie. That will always be true. Thus, our first priority should be to cling to those things that are “eternal.” Paul says that “…the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (II Corinthians 4:18). You will reap eternal benefits by telling the truth!
Next week, I will speak from a new subject. Until then, know this,
I love you all SO very much.
In His Love,
Pastor William L. McCoy
